Always Remember:
1.Hire a reputable contractor, once you have a detailed set of plans (or some what detailed) you are ready for a contractor. It is good to get a contractor that can draw up the final plans for you. In some cases contractors do this free of charge. Evaluate how well you will be able to work with them. How well known are they in your community? How do they respond to your questions and concerns? Fully define the scope of the project. Get your questions answered about the project. Ask for a tentative estimate. Be wary of INSTANT ESTIMATES on jobs that require demolition, carpentry or a series of different steps.
2.Insurance It is very important to ask for copes of general liability insurance and workers' compensation insurance certificates.
3.Valid License Ask to see a copy of a current contractor's license & check the expiration date.
4. Warning Signals Not producing a license, and vague job description in the contract.
